放暑假ing

我又回來囉！原來三月不是瘋狂的季節。 一忙 ，就到了六月 。
學校放假了 ！懵懵懂懂研一的生涯就結束了，感覺上翻譯的學問了解都不到一半。交了快十篇的中翻英， 五篇的英翻中還有一大篇的科技報告後， 老師就說可以到大聯盟去被檢驗了， 可是沒人找我去登板啊。 雖然說以後靠翻譯維生會餓死， 可是還是想要完成出一本書的夢想。
多想無益，看看我第一個90分的作品吧。

標題: 想像出閘
We gather for a celebration a bit different from our June traditions. Commencement is an annual rite of passage for thousands of graduates; today marks a rite of passage for the University.
我等今日歡聚一堂，異於往昔六月傳統。卒業乃莘莘學子學涯里程碑，即如哈佛，今日亦然。

Or, we might more charitably dub them expressions of hope unchastened by the rod of experience.
我等或可手下留情的稱其為『初犢之願也』。
But lists seem too constraining when I think of what today should mean; they seem a way of limiting rather than unleashing our most ambitious imaginings, our profoundest commitments.
然此所言之目標與計畫，羈絆余自忖度今日應有之意涵，亦是我等懷縱想像與道遠承諾之絆石。

始自1980年之學術外論述，指摘大學教學不力，收費昂貴，輕徒重師，甚以威權主義壓抑公開辯論。

我等須具宏觀責重， 蓋1630年昔日，約翰． 溫斯洛曾言：『新英格蘭乃世上之光．城造山上，無所避藏，舉世皆望。』
Truth is an aspiration, not a possession.
真理非可得， 僅因時而存。
It is not easy to convince a nation or a world to respect, much less support, institutions committed to challenging society’s fundamental assumptions.
惶言支持,甭論敬重，欲信服我邦舉世，我等將倒社會基本信條，即非易事。

科技翻譯-面板

三月真是一個瘋狂的月份。 天氣變化多端，原本已經收好的冬衣，因為不穩定的天氣， 不斷在收納箱進進出出。 Project 如火如荼的進行中 ，又開始了每天上班下班睡覺的生活 ，唯一的休閒竟是每日與我共眠的PMPBok。不知不覺生日的腳步進了，我竟然還腦中一片空白， 不知要如何好好去慶祝。下學期的翻譯作業排山倒海而來， 原本以為自己在科技業中翻滾了許多年 ，修起科技翻譯應是得心應手。 豈料光是專業技術的搜尋與研讀就花了我不少時間，感謝Ren 的友情贊助， 讓我得以如期在上課前完成我的作業。

COG module is a precise technology bonding bare chip IC and ITO glass together.The most amazing point is, by using COG technology, it is no need to use PCB (printed circuit board). Instead, we can put the circuit directly on the LCD panel. As the weight of COG module is only at one-third (1/3) compare to conventional type of design, COG technology can easily fulfill the requirement on small and less weight product such as handheld communication device.

ACF (Anisotropic Conductive Film) is a thermoset epoxy system that includes conductive particles uniformly distributed in a non-conductive adhesive film. ACF is well suited for flip chip assembly in very fine pitch chip-on-board (COB), chip-on-flex (COF), or chip-on-glass (COG) applications. It is used commercially for millions of units of COG modules. In ACF assembly, heat and pressure are applied to trap the conductive particles between the substrate pads and the IC bumps, forming permanent electrical connections as the epoxy film cures.
異方性導電膠膜 ( ACF )是一種 將導電粒子不規則散置在不導電黏膜上而合成的熱塑性環氧樹脂 ( epoxy )連接材料。 ACF 非常適合使用在需要細線路化的晶片覆晶封裝技術上，像是晶片直接封裝或是薄膜覆晶封裝以及晶片與玻璃基版接合製程的應用上。ACF的製程主要是利用溫度與壓力將導電粒子與IC與基版黏合，待環氧樹脂固化後即可形成永久導電狀態。

三天瘋狂環島食誌-台中集集篇

哇 ！真不敢相信！ 距離我的瘋狂環島已經過了快三個月了 。
中間忙著趕期末報告與享受快樂的寒假， 部落格竟然停工了足足二個月。今天趁著下班前的空檔決定要把環島的食誌慢慢的補齊。
原本繞道集集是為了享受騎腳踏車漫步在綠色隧道上。 無奈出發當日台北漂著細雨 ，心愛的小小白就被遺留在家中。所以到達集集時， 也只能在月台上拍拍照。

要離開小鎮前 ，發現不少旅客都提了一盒香蕉蛋捲。 經過詢問農會的人員後才知道那可是火車站前的名產！既然是名產就不可以放過！

到達小攤前， 果然看到堆積如山的蛋捲盒， 還飄來陣陣香蕉的香味。雖然我不吃香蕉， 不過抱著朝聖的心態 ，還是吃了一根。 果然美味 ！媲美故鄉的福義軒蛋捲！ 因為太美味了， 這盒蛋捲最終還是落入了我的胃中， 未能回到台北成為伴手禮之一。

當晚夜宿台中， 當然不免逢甲夜市吃吃喝喝 。逢甲夜市去了三次， 還是覺得好吃的東西沒幾樣， 也許是不知道門道， 吃來吃去都是繼光香香雞與甜不辣。

前往台中的路旁， 發現一個不認識的樹 ，在十二月的冬天竟然綻放有如櫻花的花朵，粉紅滿樹 ，煞是好看。

離開台中前， 以薔薇派結束了中部的旅程， 南台灣的太陽跟豬腳還在等著我。

創智慧(On Intelligence )譯評-Part 10

【譯文】人類至今還做不到可能主要源於人類的感覺和我們想要瞭解的物理現象當中，有不協調之處，智慧機器可以有特殊專門設計的感受器，而且它的記憶容量遠大於人腦，這使它們得以解決那些讓我們感到左支右絀的問題。(p287)
【原文】Our inability to tackle the issue maybe related, primarily, to a mismatch between the human senses and the physical phenomena we want to understand. Intelligent machines can have custom senses and larger-than human memory, enabling them to solve problem we can’t. (p230)
【試譯】人類至今還做不到可能主要源於人類的感覺和我們想要瞭解的生理現象，有不協調之處，智慧機器可以有特殊專門設計的感受器，而且它的記憶容量遠大於人腦，這使它們得以解決那些讓我們無法解決的問題。
【譯評】『左支右絀』是形容『顧此失彼， 窮於應付』，用在此處並不合適。

【譯文】在高科技圈裡有一句話 ：『改變所花的時間比你在短期中所預期得還要長，但是它的發生比你在長期中所預期的還要快。』(p289)
【原文】There is a saying in the high-tech world that change takes longer than you expect in the short term but occurs faster than you expect in the long term. (p232)
【試譯】科技業有句話說：『短期改變所花的時間比你預期的還要長，長期改變所花的時間比你預期的還要短。』
【譯評】原來的翻譯唸起來頗為不順，改為這樣正可以對照 Long Term & Short Term。


【譯文】我的信心來自於我已經在智慧的問題上醞釀、親炙了很久。 (p290)
【原文】My confidence stems mostly from the long time I have already spent working on the problem of intelligence. (p233)
【試譯】我的信心來自於我長期對智慧這個問題的鑽研。
【譯評】原文看不到 『醞釀』，親炙更是一個頗為奇怪的中文動詞。

創智慧 ( On intelligence )譯評-Part 9

【譯文】大量的回饋和大量的突觸數目會存在一個不養冗員的大腦當中一定事出有因。(P210)
【原文】Massive feedback and massive numbers of synapses exist for a reason
【試譯】大量的回饋與突觸存在大腦中， 必有其道理。
【譯評】『不養冗員的大腦』根本沒出現在原文中，這是譯者自行加入的解釋。 (p163)


【譯文】就像要學會蘋果和香蕉都是水果， 但是花生米跟芹菜不是。你需要一個老師來教導你按著水果來分類。(p212 )
【原文】 To learn apples and bananas are fruits, but carrot and celery are not, requires a teacher to guide you to group these items.(p165)
【試譯】就像要學會蘋果和香蕉都是水果， 但是胡蘿蔔跟芹菜不是， 你需要一個老師來教導你來做分類。
【譯評】Carrot 翻成花生米， 我想可能是洪蘭又看錯了字。


【譯文】海馬迴不像新皮質， 它有一個來自外部的結構，在那之上有好幾個特別的區域。(p219)
【原文】Unlike the neocortex, the hippocampus has a heterogeneous structure with several specialized regions. .
【試譯】海馬迴不像新皮質 ，它是由好幾個不同的專區所混雜組合而成的結構。(171)
【譯評】Heterogeneous structure 應是指由不同種類所組成的結構 而非外部。



【譯文】那麼，這個單細胞生物有智慧嗎？用人類的智慧標準來看，答案是否；但是這個物種的確位居在一條能夠運用記憶和預測以更成功生殖的物種連續性巨軸的遠端。(p227)
【原文】Is this one cell organism intelligent? Using the everyday notion of human intelligence, the answer is no. But the animal does lie at the far edge of a continuum of species that use memory and predication to reproduce more successfully.(p178)
【試譯】那麼，這個單細胞生物有智慧嗎？用人類的智慧標準來看，答案是否；但是這個物種已經快要跟智慧沾上邊了， 因為它們也可以運用記憶與預測來成功繁衍下一代。
【譯評】『物種連續性巨軸遠端』應是at the far edge of a continuum of species 的翻譯 首先不知道巨軸這二個字是打那兒來的？ 再來這幾個字唸了五、六次還是不知道是什麼意思。我把句型與意思稍做修改使之較易理解。

【譯文】我不認為我改變了任何人對意識存在的意義，我是想讓他們瞭解大部份的人把意識看成某種淨瓶甘露水， 淋在腦上這人就活起來了。你有一個由腦所組成的大腦，之後你倒上了意識這個神奇甘露水，………但是他們沒有這個特調的醬汁，……… (p246)
【原文】I do not think I changed anyone’s mind about the existence and meaning of consciousness. But I was trying to get them to realize that most people think consciousness is some kind of magical sauce that is added on top of the physical brain. You got a brain made of cells and you pour consciousness, this magical sauce, on it, ………., but they don’t have the special sauce. ( P195)
【譯評】『Special sauce 』翻成甘露水， 我覺得是很貼切的翻譯。 因為這個段落討論到的是比較偏向哲學的意識問題，用了『甘露水』這樣與佛教相關的詞正好可以互相呼應； 只可惜接下來洪蘭不知為何又把它翻成了特別的醬汁。
